Nearly 7,000 people die each year in road accidents in Venezuela, according to different estimations, of which most involve a motorcycle rider.
According to the Center for Road Security Research and Education (CIESVIAL), a Venezuelan NGO that studies this issue, 70% of people who check into an ER due to road accidents are motorcycle riders.
According to CIESVIAL, who corroborate their numbers with hospital and medical assistance center analyses, over 2,300 bikers have died in 2013. The number reached 2,100 in 2012 and less than 2,000 in 2011.
Causes are countless, but according to the head of CIESVIAL, “the main causes are speeding and alcohol intake, especially during weekends and nights”.
