Mobile telephone specialists have warned of this fraud through their profiles in the «microblog» Twitter, recommending mobile phone users to disregard such messages. Users receive an SMS that reads: «I’m texting you on wasap. Do you get my messages? Did you add me the other day?» or «I’m texting you on wasap but you’re not getting my messages»
When users answer these messages, the cybercriminals behind the fraud add them to a texting service in which they’re charged per message received, a common practice in this type of scam. It is estimated that this service charges from 1.2 to 7 Euro per message received, in the case of Europe.
We recommend you do not answer messages or calls from unknown numbers, as well as to avoid providing your number to unknown persons.
